Taieri Harriers report 19th August 2017

Lovely weather resulted in a good turnout for Saturday’s run and walk. The runners’ pack headed along Gordon Rd straight for the hills and up the Mount Allen road. Most made it to the top for a good challenging 12 km run.

First home was Donal May with Ken Wyber hard on his heels. It is good to see Ken back in action and running well again after being side-lined by a series of frustrating injuries. Sharon Findlay was not far behind Ken, chased by promising newcomer Tarryn Fahey, then Michael Dooley, Ange Low, Pam Wyber, Jan Day, and Warren Nisbet.

The fast walkers Naomi Chisman and Ruth Fahey took the same route but wisely turned for home at the foot of the Mount Allen road. Shirley Macmillan and Joe and Lorna Isaac enjoyed a shorter and more leisurely effort on the flat.

Tom Cockerill joined the party in time for afternoon tea, sporting the shiny gold medal he had just won in the Otago Road Champs 5 km walking race. The medal is a well-deserved reward for all the effort and enthusiasm Tom puts into his training.
